Avalanche risk prevention, MND consolidates its position as world leader

With winter season approaching, MND teams are currently finalizing the installation of new preventive avalanche triggering systems in France and abroad. With more than 3,000 solutions already installed around the world, these new MND SAFETY installations protect ski areas, industrial sites, railways and roads that are exposed to avalanche risks.

This winter, several French ski resorts entrusted again MND and its remote avalanche triggering solutions with new installations now in the ski areas of Tignes, La Plagne, Flaine, Chamonix, Valmeinier, Avoriaz, Megève and Val Thorens. In addition, new systems are emerging in Italy in the Aosta Valley, in Norway, in Andorra but also in Switzerland in Verbier and Anzère as well as in the United States.

In the Southern Hemisphere, since 2022 MND has been ensuring the protection of the slopes of Catedral ski resort in Argentina and the safety of mining sites in Chile, via the company Pucara, exclusive distributor of MND SAFETY devices on site.
It is also on the occasion of this historic local partnership that MND teams participated in a technical day in Santiago, Chile, on the theme of winter risk management.

In terms of transport infrastructures safety, major clients have entrusted MND with the implementation of new triggering solutions, such as the Pyrénées Atlantiques department in France or in the United States with the California & Nevada Departments of Transportation which once again choose Gazex™ and O’bellX™ solutions to secure their roads integrating the latest developments in redundant communication systems and control via Safety-Cs supervision software.

By collaborating with industry experts, MND offers its customers innovative, more sustainable and efficient solutions, always without the storage or handling of explosives and with an extremely low ecological impact. Protected by numerous patents, MND SAFETY systems are produced and assembled in France, on the industrial site of Sainte Hélène du Lac in Savoie. A “Made in France” innovation and production strategy that MND has successfully undertaken for years already.
Gazex™ and Gazflex™ are fixed remote avalanche triggering systems based on the explosion of a propane/oxygen gas mixture inside an open metal tube. In Colorado, in the heart of the Rockies, the Department of Transportation (CDOT) effectively controls more than half of the 522 avalanche paths listed along its road network with Gazex™ T.A.S. The two areas of Berthoud Pass, on highway US 40, and Loveland Pass on highway US6 are particularly critical and strategic sites.

Daisy Bell™ is a mobile helicopter avalanche triggering system based on the explosion of a hydrogen/oxygen gas mixture inside an open cone. This gas system, helicopter-borne and therefore extremely mobile, makes it possible to quickly treat numerous couloirs, depending on the risks observed.
O’BellX™ is a removable remote avalanche triggering system based on the explosion of a hydrogen/oxygen gas mixture inside an open cone. This non-polluting system, with low visual impact and fully removable, respects the environment and is particularly suitable for nature reserves and protected sites. In France, the Chamonix valley is equipped with Daisy Bell™ MND SAFETY heliborne systems as well as ObellX™ products to secure the access road to the Mont Blanc tunnel on the French side, as well as the ski area.
