With 25 projects delivered across four continents in 2026, around one hundred new triggering points installed and revenue exceeding €17 million, the MND SAFETY division of French group MND has achieved a record year. Driven by the growing importance of road protection and the commercial launch of O’BELLX™ 1.8, the Savoie-based group confirms its position as the global leader in active avalanche control.
A record year: revenue exceeds €17 million
MND SAFETY reached a new milestone in 2026, generating revenue of more than €17 million, up 42% from €12 million a year earlier. In total, 25 projects were completed during the year, representing around one hundred new solutions installed worldwide, both in mountain areas and along transport infrastructure. This growth reflects a long-term trend: road and railway protection projects are accounting for a rapidly increasing share of the MND Group portfolio.
Projects across four continents
In Norway, MND was selected by Statens Vegvesen, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, for a major contract covering 27 O’BELLX™ systems to protect four strategic roads in the far north, from the Lofoten Islands and the Hammerfest region to the E69 road leading to North Cape, around thirty kilometres from its northern end. The project, carried out with local partner MHM, will be delivered by the end of 2026.
In the United States, MND completed the second phase of its contract with Caltrans to protect the Californian road network. Two major ski resorts, Brighton in Utah and Palisades Tahoe in California, also renewed their confidence in MND by extending their Gazex™ systems.
In France, around twelve projects were completed in 2026, mainly in ski areas but also along roads, including at Isola 2000 in the Alpes-Maritimes region for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Authority. La Plagne and Avoriaz also chose to equip their sites with the new O’BellX™ 1.8.
In Italy, MND extended the Gazex™ system at the Sella Nevea ski area, near the Slovenian border.
In Chile, the Group completed an extension of the installations at the Los Pelambres mine, adding weather stations and demonstrating its ability to combine active avalanche triggering with monitoring solutions. In Argentina, Catedral ski resort in San Carlos de Bariloche, already equipped with O’BellX™, selected MND for a new Gazex™ system.
The Group also launched a major project at Shymbulak ski resort in Kazakhstan to protect ski slopes and a chairlift.
O’BELLX™ 1.8: a promising first year on the market
Launched in spring 2026 at the international Mountain Planet trade show, O’BELLX™ 1.8 is entering its first year on the market with 15 units already delivered and strong customer interest. MND is carefully scaling up industrial production to support the increase in output. At the same time, the Group is developing artificial intelligence tools to facilitate diagnostics and maintenance across its installations, improve responsiveness and give its partners greater autonomy.
The most comprehensive range on the market
MND stands apart through the breadth of its range: fixed systems (Gazex™), removable systems (O’BellX™) and a helicopter-borne system (DaisyBell™), for which MND is currently the only manufacturer worldwide. This complementary portfolio provides a solution suited to every terrain configuration, including very long road or railway corridors where fixed systems cannot be installed at every point requiring protection.
Several DaisyBell™ systems were ordered this year for projects in Spain, Chile and the United States.
Removable systems are currently seeing the strongest demand. They limit civil engineering work, reduce environmental impact and allow maintenance to be carried out in the valley during summer, while providing high autonomy of up to 60 shots and unprecedented power with O’BELLX™ 1.8.
A market driven by climate variability and tourism development
Climate change is resulting in increasingly intense events and high temperature variability, generating pronounced avalanche cycles. Winter 2026 confirmed this trend in both the northern and southern hemispheres, where exceptional snowfall linked to El Niño severely affected several mountain ranges in the Chilean and Argentine Andes.
A second growth driver is the development of winter tourism. Many countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia must now protect routes that were still closed during winter ten years ago. In Alpine countries such as France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria, critical sites are already equipped, and the focus is now on renewing and modernising installations.
Global expertise, made in France
More than 3,300 MND SAFETY systems are now installed in 22 countries, protecting industrial sites, railways, roads, ski areas and mountain communities. All products are designed, manufactured and assembled in Sainte-Hélène-du-Lac, Savoie, France, and are covered by numerous patents. They use no explosives and remotely trigger gas mixtures, avoiding any need for personnel to enter avalanche-prone areas. Operational 24/7 and in all weather conditions, they trigger avalanches preventively through a detonation above the snowpack.
