Created in Cortina for the 2021 World Skiing Championships and the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, the new men’s downhill run, the Vertigine run, needs to be 100% safe for the events.

Together with the Province of Belluno and the Fondazione Cortina 2021, the Italian government has entrusted MND with the task of securing the slope with the aim of minimising the impact on the ecosystem while guaranteeing maximum protection with a global approach integrating solutions:

  • removable O’BellX avalanche triggers on 20 priority firing points. These systems were chosen for environmental reasons (non-polluting explosion and reduced visual impact) and terrain (ease of installation).
  • monitoring and surveillance with 3 decision support systems (before firing) to enable the teams in charge to anticipate critical avalanche situations.
  • specific and complementary with 2 “radio base + control software” systems to mitigate any situation.
